Free and Open-Source Music Player for Personal Use

PlexAmp is an open-source music player which is able to handle the majority of current codecs.

Primary Functions and Features

The developers of PlexAmp have essentially designed this music player to mirror the same small-scale functionality of Winamp while embracing a decidedly modern twist. Thanks to the use of JavaScript, the users themselves can contribute to its further refinement. Some of its core features include an intuitive client-server interface, the ability to handle most Free Lossless Audio codec (FLAC) files and an unrivalled sense of portability. In terms of pixels, it is the smallest media player and it is therefore ideal for those who are looking for an alternative to larger bundles such as the standard Windows Media Player.

Other Unique Attributes

PlexAmp is able to work with both Windows and iOS systems. An offline mode allows users to access their files even when no Internet connection is present. Music fades in and out once it is stopped and started again. Finally, a dedicated hotkey provides a sense of one-touch functionality. There is currently no charge to download this player.

PROS

  • Unlike many other media players
  • PlexAmp is free to install.
  • It can work together with iOS and Windows operating systems.

CONS

  • There is no dedicated support team in the event of a problem.
  • The free RAM required is deceptively high; close to one gigabyte.
